Ben Stiller says people ‘always’ mistake him for Adam Sandler and want to talk to him about ‘Click’

Friends that stay together get mistaken for each other, if those friends are Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler, apparently.

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Stiller revealed that he’s often mistaken for Sandler, and that fans seem to have a strong desire to talk about the latter star’s 2006 film Click with him.

“We’ve been buddies for, I don’t know, 30 years or something now,” Stiller told Fallon on Wednesday night’s episode of the late-night show. “People always will yell out to me or to him, and he’ll text me and he’ll say, like, ‘I was in Italy and someone said, ‘Ben Stiller, I love you!” Or someone will say, like, ‘Oh man, Click changed my life’ to me.”

He continued, “And then I’ll say, ‘No, I’m not Adam Sandler. I’m Ben Stiller.’ And then they say, ‘Who?’”

Though the two arguably don’t look particularly alike, the duo both are known for their work in various comedies and have starred together a number of times over the years, which could explain the confusion. In 2017’s The Meyerowitz Stories, the stars played brothers, and Stiller had a notable role in Sandler’s 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore. Additionally, Stiller also cameoed in Sandler’s films Hubie Halloween and Funny People.

The confusion is not likely to ease up anytime soon, as the actors and comedians are set to reprise their roles in Happy Gilmore 2, which Netflix announced in May. The cast is also set to include Travis Kelce and Benny Safdie.

While visiting The Tonight Show in August, Sandler confirmed that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end will make an appearance in the highly anticipated sequel to his 1996 golf comedy. “We have a nice something for Travis,” the actor said at the time. “He’s going to come by and he’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life.”

Sandler added, “What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell.”
