Animated Movies Are Taking Over the Box-Office Top 10
The Wild Robot … wins!

Box-office trends may come and go, but parents wanting their kids to stop talking for an hour and a half springs eternal. Right now, animated movies are making up half of the box-office top ten. That’s the first time that has ever happened, per the Wrap. In the ranks, as of October 11 weekend, The Wild Robot sat at No. 2, the Lego Pharrell biopic Piece by Piece (yes) is at No. 5, Transformers One at No. 6, My Hero Academia: You’re Next at No. 8, and a special reshowing of The Nightmare Before Christmas rounds it off at No. 9, according to box-office reports at IMDb. That last one is a little phony since it’s an animated classic at this point, but we’ll let it slide. It’s like when someone finishes their EGOT by producing a Broadway show — not wrong, necessarily. Looking at the other members of the top ten, there are quite a few that would be improved by also being animated: Joker: Folie á Deux for sure, but Saturday Night might also have had a little more fun that way. Imagine a little hand-drawn Lorne Michaels being spun around 30 Rock. Something to think about!
