When I say “Nicole Kidman meme,” any number of things could come to mind: Kidman’s “so true” AMC pre-roll, Kidman clapping with her fingers far apart at the Oscars, Kidman looking relieved after finalizing her divorce from Tom Cruise. First of all: Yes, Kidman has seen all those memes. But she’s got a correction about that last one — you know, the picture from 2001 when she’s wearing pink and green and screaming into the void? The Australian star told British GQ the divorce backstory is “not true,” shattering the lore of one of the internet’s favorite photos. “That was not me; that was from a film, that wasn’t real life,” she said. “I know that image!” (She did not disclose which movie the image is from, and a quick IMDb search does not provide any strong leads.) Of course, it’s not the first time we’ve gotten the story behind a Nicole Kidman meme wrong. Not that Kidman minds the meme-ing — especially not the AMC ad. “I’ll do anything for cinema, so you can meme me as much as you want,” she said to GQ. As if we were waiting for permission!
