The stars of Stranger Things stars are always there to support one another.

On Monday, Finn Wolfhard, Maya Hawke, Natalia Dyer, and Gaten Matarazzo all attended the opening night of costar Sadie Sink’s new Broadway play, John Proctor Is the Villain. They all kept their arrivals low-key, posing for photos individually (or, in Dyer’s case, not at all) before heading into the Booth Theatre to see Sink take the stage.

Sink, who plays Max Mayfield on the beloved Netflix series, was photographed on the evening alongside her costars Amalia Yoo, Fina Strazza, Maggie Kuntz, Hagan Oliveras, Gabriel Ebert, Molly Griggs, and John Proctor writer Kimberly Belflower and director Danya Taymor.

A modern-day riff on Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, John Proctor Is the Villain follows a group of high school students living in rural Georgia as their reading of the play just so happens to coincide with a series of sexual assault scandals that rock their local community just one year after the mainstream rise of the #MeToo Movement. Sink stars as Shelby, a smoldering outcast amongst her classmates who isn’t afraid to speak truth to power.

Entertainment Weekly positively reviewed the “laugh-out-loud funny and deeply affecting” dramedy, giving it an A grade and praising Sink’s “heartbreakingly human” performance as Shelby.

The 22-year-old actress isn’t the only Stranger Things star who’s not a stranger to Broadway. In 2023, Matarazzo, who plays Dustin, starred as Tobias in the Josh Groban- and Annaleigh Ashford-led revival of Sweeney Todd. And Caleb McLaughlin, who stars as Lucas, also performed as Young Simba as a child in The Lion King

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things wrapped last December and is expected to be released sometime this year.

Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer equated the episodes to “eight blockbuster movies” at a Netflix preview event in January.

“At the same [time], we think it’s — or hope it’s — our most personal story,” Matt said at the time. “It was super intense and emotional to film — for us and for our actors we’ve been with for so long. And we’ve been making it together for almost 10 years now. There was a lot of crying. There was so much crying. The show means so much to all of us, and everyone put their hearts and souls into it. And we hope — and believe — that passion is going to translate to the screen.”
