Donny Osmond says retirement from the stage is ‘coming’

Legendary performer Donny Osmond has addressed his potential retirement in a new interview with the ladies of The View.
The 67-year-old showman appeared Thursday for a live interview on the talk show, where he received a warm standing reception (and hug) from moderator Whoopi Goldberg before he fielded a question from cohost Sara Haines about plans to take a step back from the stage.
“It’s coming. Let’s be honest, it’s inevitable,” Osmond replied, prompting 82-year-old panelist Joy Behar — who has balked at the thought of retiring in the past — to question his assessment.
“No, it’s not!” Behar quipped before Osmond elaborated on the sentiment.
“I love what I do. I really enjoy it. I’ve got a great job. My job is to make people happy. How can you complain about that? Yet, it’s a lot of work. I put 100 percent into my show. But I still have a lot of fuel in this body, because I’ve raised the bar so high for myself,” he continued. “And the day that I can’t reach that bar and give 110 percent on stage is the day the curtain will not go up. It’s not around the corner, but it’s inevitable because I love what I do. I really enjoy entertaining.”

Osmond added that he’s endured “a tough journey” through Hollywood, which included his breakout as part of the Osmonds singing group and his beloved 1979 Donny & Marie variety series, on which he starred with his sister, Marie Osmond.
“Show business is not an easy business to be in. You all know that,” Osmond continued, with Goldberg joking that her cohosts “don’t” know about the industry’s issues as intricately as she and Osmond do.

After the interview, Goldberg pointed audiences to a place where they can see Osmond on stage ahead of his retirement, as he’s currently performing a solo residency at Harrah’s in Las Vegas.
