IndyCar Series driver Stanton Barrett has donated space on the No. 98 Team 3G car this weekend to help promote the Kansas City Art Institute's Art of the Car Concours event June 27.
The vintage car show in Kansas City benefits student scholarships to the Kansas City Art Institute. Barrett, who paints, sketches and does photography in his spare time, owns an art gallery that showcases a variety of new and established talent with the proceeds going to the artists' designated charity.
"This is a great opportunity to bring together two of my passions - art and racing - to benefit Kansas City art students and help fulfill their dreams," Barrett said.
In each race market, Barrett donates space on the car to a local charitable organization. KCAI trustee Brad Nicholson met Barrett a few years ago at the Daytona 500 when he passed Barrett's motorcoach, which had several Kansas City Chiefs chairs outside it. When Nicholson inquired who the driver was, he found out Barrett just happens to be a Chiefs fan. Barrett reconnected with Nicholson at Daytona this year and discussed creating a unique opportunity to benefit the Kansas City Art Institute.
After qualifications, Barrett watched the NFL draft with sharp attention on the Chiefs' selections.
"With the dark cloud brought to the area with the bad decision by the Chiefs to trade Tony Gonzalez, I hope this program will brighten someone's day," Barrett said of the KCAI program.
